Reclaiming Motherhood in these Last Days*

Today is Mother's Day. There is a warfare against motherhood. The Devil is a liar who tries to pervert God's will. He is the Father of Lies and has been since the beginning. Margaret Sanger, who founded Planned Parenthood and abortion, as well as those who tell us that motherhood is undesirable and unfulfilling for a woman, are part of this current day warfare against motherhood. A poem written by William Ross Wallace brings us a truth that is found in scripture: "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle is the Hand that Rules the World."

In Genesis, from the time we read of the creation of Adam and then Eve from the rib of the man (Gen. 1:22-25), to this day, all men and women in the world were born from a woman: "Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living." (Gen. 3:20). Adam proclaimed that the nature of the relationship between a husband and wife made it more important than any other kind of earthly relationship (Gen. 2:23-24). Because of the fall of man in disobedience, women would bear children in pain, and men would have to labor and sweat in order to bring forth food from the earth. (Gen. 3:16-17). Though naked, Adam and Eve had both been clothed in what I believe was the glory of God. However, after their fall, they were now clothed in animal skins provided by God (Gen. 3:21).

Paul the apostle travelled to Athens to preach the Gospel. He encountered many monuments to diverse gods and philosophies of men there. He saw one monument which said, "TO THE UNKNOWN GOD", and Paul used the opportunity to preach God, who created the world and everything in it. (Acts 17:23-25). Paul also told the Athenians that God: "...hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation." (v. 26). Since the flood recorded in the Book of Genesis, all those alive in the world are offspring of the eight people in the Ark. Many do not believe that the universal flood took place in spite of scientific evidence, and many do not think that God will judge the world again by universal fire, but scripture declares it. This one blood that unites us all as descendants of Noah, is the blood that comes from mother to child through the umbilical cord. It is time to reclaim motherhood.

For those who falsely claim that motherhood is unfulfilling and an obstacle to a woman's true talents, gifts and career, Proverbs 31 was written by a king's mother to her son. In it, the king's mother proclaims that all of a wife's or mother's wide-ranging gifts, talents, and wisdom are free to flow to the great advantage of her husband, her children, and her community: "Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." (v. 28-31). Many seek fleeting fame and empty fortune, but this Proverbs 31 wife and mother who fears the LORD excels in all areas and is recognized for it. My wife, Pastor Mary, is an example of a Proverbs 31 woman, and she is praised by me as her husband, and she is praised by her children, and her grandchildren.

There are cultures and religions around the world that punish women if they are not covered from head to toe. Their claim is that men will not be able to control themselves from lust if they see a woman uncovered. This is a lie. However, in our society, the opposite is the case. Young women dress immodestly while covering themselves with piercings and tattoos. The LORD who respects, honors and values women, wants women to respect and value themselves in the same manner. The prophet Isaiah wrote about the women of God's people, whom the LORD calls "daughters of Zion". He wrote the Word of the LORD: "...the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet...Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts...And it shall come to pass, that instead of a sweet smell there shall be a stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty." (Isa. 3:16-24, excerpt). What is the purpose of this immodesty among women who are part of the people of God but to redirect our eyes away from the glorious purpose of God for women? God is calling for the prayers of women again. Prayers that change households, communities and the world. Prayers that change the future for the coming generations. Politicians and government cannot create this change. The apostle Peter wrote about the powerful spiritual effect of godly women: "...ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation (anastrophe - manner of life, conduct, behavior) of the wives; while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear." (1 Pet. 3:1-2). The godly behavior of the wife has a godly effect on her husband. Peter wrote of the honorable and holy women of scripture and times past who trusted in God and were subject to their husbands. Sarah called her husband, Abraham, "lord". (v. 5-6). It is not the outward adorning that profits a woman, Peter wrote, but the inward adorning, which is not corruptible, the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, "which is in the sight of God of great price." (v. 3-4).

Motherhood is a holy, precious calling while still succeeding in all kinds of gifts. Nothing can replace the role of mothers: not schools, colleges, universities nor other institutions, especially not those that have adopted anti-Judeo/Christian principles of humanism rather than godliness. It is time and it is vital to reclaim motherhood in these last days.

To moms, moms-to-be, and grandmothers: we need you in this hour. Pray for our nation, for Israel who is facing the time of Jacob's Trouble and pray that the Gospel be taken throughout the whole world. We pray the blessing of God upon mothers and grandmothers, and we pray for those who desire to become mothers. It is the custom of Everlasting Covenant to pray for conception on Mother's Day and we have seen the births of miracle babies as a result. It is the Lord who opens and closes the womb, and we pray for the anointing that destroys every yoke and we agree with you that you will conceive and bear healthy children, in Jesus' name.
