      We make life and death choices based upon the words out of our mouths. Proverbs 18:31 says: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." There is also a direct connection between what is in the heart, and what then comes out of the mouth: "Let the words of my mouth , and the meditation of my heart , be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer." (Psalms 19:14). Scripture says that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. What are you speaking? Jesus said: "...A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh." (see Lk. 6:43-45). What are you speaking? Are the words out of our mouths really powerful enough to affect life and death?      James wrote that in the same way a small bit in the mouth...

       The Psalms will play a large role in this message. We should remember that the Psalms are songs, meant to be sung. Just as we are able to sing along with our favorite popular songs, we should also be that familiar with the Songs inspired by God. They are the soundtrack for our lives.      Psalm 119 says: "Order ( kun - prepare, establish, ready, set, direct, order, fashion, be securely determined, to direct toward, be enduring) my steps in thy word ( 'imra - word, speech, commandment, word of God, Torah): and let not any iniquity have dominion over me...Thy word ( dabar - speech, spoken word) is a lamp ( nir - candle, light, lamp, to glisten) unto my feet ( regel - foot, to endure, journey), and a light ( 'or - morning light, light of day, light) unto my path ( natib - way, path, footpath)."      We as a church have always focused on the pre-eminence of the Word of God. Joshua 1:8 says, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." Also from Psalm 19:14: "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."      The words out of our mouths should be the same as in our heart - the Word of God.       When Bill Clinton became president, I sent him a letter, and I have continued to send letters to all of the presidents after him. The Clinton letter was based on a message that I gave titled "America's Last Hurrah." That message would turn into a series of messages, and then finally assembled into a book that has yet to be published. The title of the Book of messages is called "The Late Great United States?"       Abraham Lincoln gave a famous speech at Gettysburg and part of what he said to describe the United States' republic was "a government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth." But is this what we really want?
