Living Shofars*

     In a few days, the Feast of Trumpets will occur. In Hebrew it is called Yom Teruah , "A Day of Blasts."      This feast is one of the feasts of the LORD given to Israel in Leviticus 23: "And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD." (v. 23-25).      This feast is also called "The Day of the Wake-Up Trumpet", reminding us of the parable which Jesus taught of the ten virgins, five of whom were wise, and five who were foolish. All of the virgins slept, however, and had to be awoken by a shout.
