Yom Kippur - The Day of Five Prayers*

Image
Wearing the white linen Kittel on the Day of Atonement      The month of Elul plus the ten days up to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement totals forty days. Moses interceded several times for forty days for Israel and for Aaron. One of those occasions was after the Israelites had demanded that Aaron create a golden calf for them to worship. Despite witnessing many miracles of God, His people still sinned and rejected the LORD. Do we have golden calves?      The LORD still kept His promise to Israel, but made this clear to them: "Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that He may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob...for thou art a stiffnecked people...ye have been rebellious against the LORD." (Deut. 9:5-7, excerpt). The LORD tol...

Becoming Light in an Age of Darkness*

Image
We have clear evidence all around us that we live in an age of lawlessness and darkness. Violence, crime, assassination, and the martyrdom of those of faith in parts of the world - how are we responding? Jesus said for us to occupy until He comes. "Occupy" is a military term. We occupy as His Light against the darkness and lawlessness until He comes.      First, we are able to identify some of the sources of darkness and lawlessness that can affect a believer's life in these last days. Paul wrote of this to Timothy: "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having the form of godliness, but denying the power th...

Signs, Set Times and God's Feasts*

Christianity at its core and root is Jewish and can only be viewed from that perspective.      The LORD spoke to Israel as the nation that He delivered from slavery, whom He "brought up" from the land of Egypt. However, even though they were to have a very special relationship with the LORD, their sins had separated them from Him. They could no longer discern the traps and snares that had been laid for them even while they were being warned of them by the LORD and His prophets. ( Amos 3:1-5 ). The LORD said, "Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it? Surely the LORD God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the LORD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?" (v. 6-8).      Prophecy is not determined by men's interpretation, but by comparing the scriptures of what the LORD has sa...

Understanding the Next Feast - The Feast of Trumpets*

Image
Many churches never teach the Feast Days of the LORD, but there is prophetic revelation within them that applies to the believers in Jesus, the Messiah/Christ. The prophet Hosea wrote that God's people perish from a lack of knowledge, and even reject that knowledge. This refusal to receive the knowledge that God has given to them leads to their destruction, as the prophet wrote, as the LORD refuses them also as His priests. We are called to be priests and kings in service to the Lord, and we are to receive and walk in the knowledge that He has given us through His Word.      Even the heavenly bodies were created and are used by the Lord as signs, according to Gen. 1:14, to alert His people and to call them to His set times, His appointed feasts. The sign in the heavens of the Feast of Trumpets, also called Yom Teruah and Rosh Hashanah, is the new moon which will mark the beginning of the next month on the Jewish calendar. This new moon of the Feast of...

The Day of the LORD and the End Times*

There is a misconception in the Church regarding "The Day of the LORD." We view this Day as being associated mainly with the Rapture of the Church and the Millennial Reign of Christ on the earth. However, the prophets of scripture and the revelations of the New Testament give us a different view of what this Day entails.      The prophet Joel wrote that the Day of the LORD would be marked by earthquakes, gloominess and deep darkness as the light of the sun, moon and stars are withdrawn. He wrote: "...for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?" (Joel 2:10-11). Malachi also asked the question: "But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' sope..." (Mal. 3:2). Jesus said: "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man...
